Visually Appealing	Basic The work is sloppy and incomplete.	Progressing The work is completed, but needs more color or has too much color. May also be a be a but sloppy or thrown together.	Approaching The work is put together well, but needs more color or has a little too much.	Exceeding The work is put together well and appropriately colorful.
Creativity	Basic Student seemed to copy other Texas symbols and was not able to produce anything original.	Progressing The art work was interesting, but lacked originality.	Approaching Student was creative in their art work, and represents themselves creatively.	Exceeding Student used own ideas and created an interesting and innovative symbol to represent Texas. Did not copy any other symbols already known to stand for Texas. Unusal, but works extremely well.
Elements of Design	Basic The student had minimal elements representing their character	Progressing The student had the assignment adequately, yet missing some elements that represent their character.	Approaching The artwork shows that the student several elements representing their character.	Exceeding Student showed an awareness of the elements and principles that represent their character.
