Word Choice
Exceeds Standards
Strong, vivid words and descriptions throughout the text. Language is wielded to create elements of the narrative in a fresh, engaging way.
Meets Standards
Appropriate words and descriptions throughout the text. Language is effective in prescribing elements to the narrative.
Almost Meets Standards
Words and descriptions are either generic throughout or attempts at more elevated language is awkward or sporadic.
Does Not Meet Standards
Poor word choice and descriptions throughout the text. Elementary word choice and/or misused words.
Organization and Development
Exceeds Standards
Organization of narrative enhances the plot structure and contributes to the presentation of the narrative. The supporting details employed are engaging and completely focused on executing the tale.
Meets Standards
Organization is appropriate and effectively presents the story. The supporting details accurately convey the tale.
Almost Meets Standards
Although an organizational plan is in place, it is uneven. The details are present but they are either weak, too numerous or too few.
Does Not Meet Standards
No observable organizational plan is in place. Details are completely ineffective.
Spelling and Grammar
Exceeds Standards
Little or no errors in spelling. Grammar choices enhance the narrative throughout the entire work.
Meets Standards
Few errors in spelling. Grammar choices are reflective of Standard American English and contain minimal errors.
Almost Meets Standards
Inconsistent and or incorrect spelling and grammar are found throughout the text.
Does Not Meet Standards
The narrative is saturated with spelling and grammar errors that interfere with the coherency of the text.
Required Elements
Exceeds Standards
The book contains 20 entries and has a cover with a title, a back cover with a picture of the author with a brief biographical summary. Each entry is titled.
Meets Standards
The book contains 18-19 entries and has a cover with a title, a back cover with a picture of the author with a brief biographical summary. Each entry is titled.
Almost Meets Standards
The book contains 15-17 entries and has a cover with a title. The biography may be missing. Most of the entries are titled.
Does Not Meet Standards
The book contains 14 entries or less. The cover page and/or back page may be missing. Entries are sporadically titled.
