Behavior and Academics

Group 1 - Disruptive Behavior

Create a list of characteristics students should have to do well in school. Be ready to present your list and rationale for each characteristic. Research may need to be done.

Poor = D or F

Students listed three or less behavior characteristics. Very little explanation provided. Handwriting cannot be read easily. Presentation is very short and disorganized.
Fair = C

Students listed three to five behavior characteristics and provided short explanations of the listed characteristics. Handwriting can be read but it looks sloppy. Presentation is ok but it could be more organized.
Good = B

Students listed five or more characteristics. Each characteristic has a good explanation of what it means and how it impacts academic performance. Handwriting is good. Presentation is good and somewhat organized.
Excellent = A

Students listed 8 or more characteristics. Students provided explanations and examples of what those characteristics mean and what impact they have on student academic performance. Handwriting is neat. Presentation is great and organized.
Group 2 - Impulse Control

Write a short letter to a classmate who is struggling to control his/her impulses that will help him/her to improve impulse control. Make a presentation.

Poor = D or F

Letter is composed of 3-5 sentences only. It does not address impulses and/or information on how to help to control them. Handwriting cannot be read easily. There's no organization. Presentation is very short and disorganized.
Fair = C

Letter is composed of more than 5 sentences. It does address some impulse behaviors. The letter does not have much information and/or suggestions on how to help to control impulsive behavior. Handwriting can be read but it is sloppy.Presentation is ok but it could be more organized.
Good = B

Letter is composed of 3 paragraphs (9 sentences or more). It addresses several impulse behaviors and information and/or suggestion on how to help to control them. Handwriting is good. Presentation is good and somewhat organized.
Excellent = A

Letter is composed of 3 or more paragraphs (more than 12 sentences). It addresses many impulse behaviors. The letter contains much information about how to help to control impulses. Handwriting is neat. Presentation is great and organized.
Group 3 - Student Motivation

Create a poster/advertisement that will motivate students to take school seriously. Make a presentation.

Poor = D or F

The poster is mostly blank, not much writing and no color. There are maybe 2-3 motivation words and/or sentences. Nothing is drawn. It is disorganized. Presentation is very short.
Fair = C

The poster has some writing on it. It has some color but no drawing. There are more than 3 motivation words and/or sentences. Handwriting can be read but it is not neat. Presentation is short and disorganized.
Good = B

The poster has much writing on it. It has color and at least one drawing/symbol. There are at least 5 words/sentences about motivation. Handwriting is good. Presentation is good and somewhat organized.
Excellent = A

The poster looks good. It has more than 5 sentences and/or words about motivation. There's much color and more than one drawing and/or symbol for motivation/success. Handwriting is neat and presentation is organized.
Group 4 - Mental Health Disorders

Pretend you are a teacher and write a paragraph on how you would handle a student with mental health disorders in the class.

Poor = D or F

Only one sentence was written. There was not much information about the mental disorder or how to handle. Handwriting cannot be easily read. Presentation is very short and disorganized.
Fair = C

Students wrote only 2 sentences. A mental disorder is mentioned but not much about how to handle it. Handwriting can be read but it is not neat. Presentation is short and disorganized.
Good = B

Students wrote at least 3 sentences. A mental disorder was mentioned and how to handle a student who suffers from such disorder. Handwriting is good. Presentation is good and somewhat organized.
Excellent = A

Student wrote more than 3 sentences. A mental disorder was mentioned and described. Information was given on how to handle such a student. Handwriting is neat and presentation is organized.
