Script and Performance Project Rubric 
Students will create and perform an original script as a project grade. The final draft must be typed in proper script format. The script must be 3- 5 minutes in final performance format. Costumes and props may be used at the students' discretion.

What quality is the content of the script? Includes setting, time period, climax/conflict, theme/message. Three-five minute performance.

Excellent

The script is dynamic, engaging, and original. The student created a unique and well-developed story. Includes all elements under content.
Good

The script is original and interesting. Some parts may not have been fully developed or explored.
Includes some elements under content.
Fair

Much of the script was not developed or thought out well. Though the student had some original ideas, few elements were thought out.
Poor

The script is not original or doesn't contain the required elements. It is not developed, and does not hold the audience's attention.
Organization

How well was the story organized? Proper format used including Scene headings/action direction/dialogue/speaking direction.

Excellent

The script is written in an organized fashion.
The story line is presented clearly.The script follows the plot structure.
Good

The script is somewhat organized. Thought was put into the organization of the plot beginning and follows the character's progress toward change, though some parts are not clear or thought out as well.
Fair

The script is not well organized. The plot does not follow the structure discussed in class.
Poor

The script is unorganized. The audience has trouble following the plot and/or the student has little to no plot involved.
Character Development

How well has the student researched, developed, and delivered his/her character?

Excellent

*Character's motivation is well-defined.
*Depth and range of emotion is expansive.
*Life and world of character is illuminated brilliantly through actor's performance.
Good

*Character's motivation is somewhat defined.
*Depth and range of emotion is adequate.
*Life and world of character is superficial, but adequately displayed through actor's performance.
Fair

*Character's motivation is lacking.
*There is little depth or range of emotion.
*Life and world of character is not illuminated by actor's performance.
Poor

*Student is doing little more than reading from the script.
Performance

Does the student retain focus (stay in character) throughout the entire performance?

Excellent

*Student stays completely immersed in their character throughout the entire performance.
*Student never breaks focus, even during missed lines/cues.
Good

*Student weaves in and out of character slightly throughout performance.
*Student subtly breaks focus when thinking of next line/cue or out of obvious nervousness.
Fair

*Student never truly immerses enough into their character to produce any kind of believability.
*Student's focus is easily broken; attention wavers often.
Poor

*Student makes little to no attempt at staying in any type of character.
*Student lacks focus and seems unprepared.
Effort/Behavior

Use of class time, work habits, focus, proper use of costumes/props.

Excellent

Works independently and remains on-task. Student shows effort well above the basics of the assignment. Project complete by deadline.
Good

Works independently and remains on-task. Assignment completed in above-average manner. Student needed reminder of deadline & forms.
Fair

Student finished the project, but finishing touches are not evident. Did not work independently. Sometimes off-task. Reminded repeatedly of deadline & forms.
Poor

Student did the minimum or did not complete the project. Did not work independently nor seek assistance. Frequently off-task. Missed deadline.
