Poetry Rubric
	Level One 10 pts	Level Two 15 pts	Level Three 20 pts	Level Four 25 pts
Purpose and Originality	Level One Poem appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas are impersonal or unoriginal.	Level Two The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed.	Level Three Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.	Level Four Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Grammar	Level One There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand.	Level Two The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors.	Level Three A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem.	Level Four Proper use of modern English spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem.
Attractiveness	Level One The poem is distractingly messy or very poorly designed.	Level Two The poem is acceptably attractive though it may be a bit messy.	Level Three The poem is attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.	Level Four The poem is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.
Figurative language	Level One The poem did not include any figurative language or literary devices, such as alliteration, assonance, and consonance.	Level Two The poem uses figurative language or literary devices once.	Level Three The poem incorprates two or more different types of figurative language or literary devices throughout the poem.	Level Four The poem includes three or more types of figurative language and literary devices.
