Pourquoi Tale 4th grade- Genre/ elements of a Pourquoi Tale

The students have read and discussed many Pourquoi Tales and must create their own after learning about the elements of a Pourquoi Tale.

Beginning Sentence	Level 4 Beginning sentence creates interest and introduces the story. Story is introduced in the past in a creative way.	Level 3 Beginning sentence introduces reader to story. The story begins in the past.	Level 2 Beginning sentence vaguely introduces reader to the story. May or may not begin in the past.	Level 1 Beginning does not introduce the reader to the story.
Characters	Level 4 Writer describes characters with detail including physical and personality traits. All characters are animals or elements of nature.	Level 3 A good description is given of the characters with some traits. All characters are animals or elements of nature.	Level 2 A basic description is given of characters with some physical traits.
