Drawing Accuracy

Advanced

The student accurately transferred their printed image into a photo realistic image. The students included an extreme amount of details, accurate drew facial features, and has paid close attention to hair or other accessories found in the photo.
Meets Standards

The student pretty accurately drew their printed image. The student included most details and drew facial features pretty well with minor issues. The student could have paid attention to details in hair and other items found in the photo a. Little closer.
Improving

Drawing is somewhat accurate but not duplicated exactly. Some facial features are not in place and are not drawn according to the photo. The drawing lacks detail.
Needs Improvement

Transferred drawing from photo to paper using a grid, but did not accurately follow grid. Facial features are not in the proper place and are disproportionate to the size of the head.
Pencil textures and usage

Advanced

The artist has accurate textures matched from the photo with the use of their drawing pencils. The artist used multiple pencils in order to create as many values as possible. Student used multiple tools such as the stump, tortillion, and eraser stick.
Meets Standards

The artist has semi-accurate textures matched from the photo with the use of their drawing pencils. The artist used multiple pencils in order to create values, but could have used them better. Student showed that they are meeting standards while using multiple tools such as the stump, tortillion, and eraser stick.
Improving

The artist has some struggles with accurately matching textures matched from the photo with the use of their drawing pencils. The artist could have benefited from using more pencils in order to create as many values as possible. The artist may of used the wrong pencils to match values as well. Student did show mastery with using multiple tools such as the stump, tortillion, and eraser stick.
Needs Improvement

Student didn’t use pencils well. Little blending has been used. Textures look rushed without purpose. Presentation is untidy. Not a photo-realistic use of pencil.
Values

Advanced

Value is used in a very expressive manner. A varied range of value and contrast (value range of darks, highlights, and mid tones) and all objects are shaded where needed. Artist was able to achieve multiple values.
Meets Standards

Value is used in a somewhat expressive way. Values have been blended showing proficiency using medium. Artist achieved a wide enough range of values.
Improving

Value is used in an average way. Value is added to some of the features and shading somewhat reflects the actual value of the photograph portrait. Attempts to blend gradient values are rough and not smooth. Artist achieved a minimal amount of values.
Needs Improvement

Value is lifeless and below average. Little or weak value is added to enhance features. Shading is not used and does not reflect the value of the portrait. No blending seen and dramatic jumps in value where there are none in the photo. Artist did not attempt to match values accurately.
Craftsmanship

Advanced

Meets Standards

The student put forth the effort required to complete the project well; used class time well. Student was focused and somewhat refrained from discussions that were not pertinent to the project. Grid can’t be seen. Paper is in pretty good shape.
Improving

The student put forth the effort required to finish the project; used some class time adequately. Student was not focused and did not refrain from discussions that were not pertinent to the project. Had to be reminded of the task at hand. Grid is somewhat visible. Paper has some errors and damages.
