Format	Level One The poem does not follow the guidelines of the form presented in the assignment. The poem is too short. No vocabulary words.	Level Two Form is compsed of 5-10 lines. Not enough to elaborate on the topic. No vocabulary words.	Level Three Poem is mostly written in the proper form. 10-14 lines. One vocabulary words.	Level Four Poem is complete and follows its intended form of at least 15-17 lines. and has at least two vocabulary words.
Grammar	Level One There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand.	Level Two The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors.	Level Three A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem.	Level Four Proper use of modern English spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem.
Purpose and Originality The poem adheres to the chosen topic.	Level One Poem appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas are impersonal or unoriginal.	Level Two The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed.	Level Three Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.	Level Four Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Figurative language	Level One The poem did not include any figurative language or literary devices, such as alliteration, assonance, and consonance.	Level Two The poem uses figurative language or literary devices once.	Level Three The poem incorprates two or more different types of figurative language or literary devices throughout the poem.	Level Four The poem includes three or more types of figurative language and literary devices.
