States position about the crime scene, but the position may be vague. The thesis may present two arguments instead of one.

Does not state a thesis statement or the thesis statement is underdeveloped. The thesis statement may present two arguments instead of one.

Evidence

The evidence thoroughly proves claim.
The evidence is, very clear, thoroughly explained (explains 5 pieces of evidence)
9-10 points.
Proficient
The evidence proves claim.
The evidence is clear, specific, logical, related and supports to the claim completely (explains 5 pieces of evidence)
8 points.
Progressing
The evidence does not completely prove claim.
It may be unclear, showing little or no depth of thought, incomplete, not related to the claim. Most pieces of evidence are are given (explains 4 pieces of evidence)
7 points.
Does not meet standard
Evidence is not sufficient to prove claim.
The evidence may be missing completely, incorrect, not mentioned at all, not related to the claim, listed, not explained, illogical. Few or none of the pieces of evidence are given (less than four pieces of evidence).
0-6 points.
Reasoning

Exceeds expectations
Reasoning clearly and insightfully explains the relationship between the evidence and the claim.
It may smoothly transition from one reason to the next.
Include interesting connections to the evidence, thoroughly explain every piece of evidence, show a deep understanding of the whole topic, give strong reasoning that connects to the major claim.
18-20 points.
Proficient
Reasoning decently explains the connection between the evidence and the claim or topic.
It may make sense, be easy to follow, connect the evidence to the claim clearly, explain each piece of evidence, give correct reasoning that connects to the major claim.
16-17 points.
Progressing
Reasoning partially explains the relationship between the evidence and the claim.
It may be somewhat difficult to follow, be vague, be unclear in its relationship, only partially correct, unrelated to the major claim.
14-15 points.
Does not meet standard
Reasoning does not explain the relationship between the evidence and the claim.
It may be hard to follow because the ideas do not connect to each other; they are unreasonable, incorrect, vague, or not related to the claim. Ignores many pieces of evidence or no evidence is mentioned at all.
0-13 points.
Quality of Writing

Exceeds expectations
Project reflects excellent quality writing.
It may have very few grammar and convention errors, easy to read, compels reader to continue reading, completely support claim making the argument convincing, regularly incorporates sentence patterns throughout responses.
9-10 points.
Proficient
Project reflects good, quality writing.
It may clearly support one side of the issue, have few grammar and spelling errors, be fairly easy to read, makes the reader interested in the topic, be convincing
8 points.
Progressing
Project reflects somewhat good, quality writing
It may have some spelling or grammar errors, be slightly difficult to understand, not be convincing, include little sentence patterns
7 points.
Does not meet standard
Project does not reflect good, quality writing.
It may have many misspelled word, have many grammar errors, be difficult to understand, not include any sentence patterns.
0-6 points.
