Arc of learning

Universal and specific reach, people before subject matter

Ideal

The teaching arc has a beginning, middle and ending.
Students are stimulated, know what to expect and feel the experience enhanced their knowledge/skills. The entire arc is specifically designed to
equip specific students in our class with guidance, inspiration, skills, and /or teaching knowledge.
Memorable

Learning outcomes are attained in terms of an insight or revelation about teaching, although the kind of action implied for the classroom is not as clear for all.
Acceptable

Presentation failed to take the shape of an arc, with either the initial stimulus for learning, unclear or confusing, or the teaching failing to deliver greater insight, knowledge or direction for the student in the classroom. The summary is lacking in terms of a take away that will enrich and help students to make decisions in the classroom.
Needs Improving

Presentation lacked
focus, logic, and or shape.
Teamwork/Participation

United effort and synergy

Ideal

The group worked very well
together and the presentation, answers, questions actvites etc. brought out the talents of the individual group members. A synergy seemed to be created such that each team member delivered part of a learning experience that is better than any individual effort might have been.
Memorable

The group works well and delivers a high level learning experience. Group members benefit from each other's input and students learn.
Synergy, flow, spontaneity may be lacking.
Acceptable

Some members are obviously carrying the group. Some members appear disinterested except when it is their turn to speak.
Needs Improving

Group members protect turf, refuse to help or cooperate together. The team suffers and individual efforts would have been more effective. there is a feeling of tension and hostility.
Content

Credibility

Ideal

Group members had a stronghold on the content and content was thoroughly addressed in terms of learning needs of class members. Presenters stimulated learning, delivered learning that created engagement, increased skills, increased connection to teaching practise, and summed up the learning to cement the learning.
Memorable

Group members have a solid understanding of the content.
Minor
emphasis on learning rote facts, irrelevant details or trivia.
Acceptable

Group members failed to connect content to classroom practise at the EY, MY or SY level. athe contect besomes too medicalized or away from teaching students and meeting student learning needs.
Needs Improving

Group members fail to represent facts, mis relevant points of view and fail to connect to the students in the class.
Pre and post intervention/lesson

-Answer key provided
-6 questions from Blloom`s taxonomy

Ideal

Students receive questions/stimuli that engenders a real interest in the topic. Questions and marking that follows up the presentation help to solidify learning and provide direction for students in guiding teaching decisions.
Memorable

Question to stimulate learning almost exactly match with the learning activities/presentationand/or stimuli, but maybe are off a bit.
Marking helps to develop knowledge and confidence.
Acceptable

Pre or post activities lack support or connection with the in class intervention/lessons. Group failed to stimulate learning or to cement it.
Needs Improving

Links between both the pre/post activities, what links?
Presentation/intervention/stimulus

People come first, eye contact, smiles, interaction.

Ideal

Everyone is engaged and absorbed. There might exist a feeling of discovery, challenge, intense interest. Mutuality between presenting group and participants is so great that disruption does not derail concentration or group participation.
Memorable

Everyone is paying attention. Everyone can follow and move through the experience/lesson. The feeling of utter absorption is lacking.
Acceptable

Lesson is learned, but who cares. There is a feeling of rote learning or boredom. Students fail to give their full attention or to be fully engaged.
Needs Improving

Students cross talk, walk away, walk out, fall asleep, or display a gross lack of interest or receptivity.
Quality of Intervention

Ideal

More of an interactive experience that reaches students more through show rather tell. Everyone is engaged with each other and actively contructing meanings. Not generic, but highly relevant to specific students within the class, for example the students in their 5th year of the joint RRC/U W program. Some evidence of dynamism, pacing, responsiveness, humor, spontaneity, energy, creativity, charisma and memorable impact are present.
Memorable

Dynamism, energy, creativity, humor, exist or could be present. Intervention tends to make some students feel disengaged.
Acceptable

Generic presentation that would do well for any group of B. Ed. students.
Needs Improving

Presentation lacks engagement, focus, energy, animation, organization or life.
