Gingerbread Project Rubric 
The students will using skills learned earlier in year to construct this project. The units include measurements, painting, use of equipment, and papier mache. The project will include a base and the house.

Circle for base 20 pts

Excellent

The paper was exceptionally folded, marked and cut. When unfolded it was a perfect circle.
good

The paper was folded very well measured and cut. When unfolded it made a very good circle
Average

The paper was folded but was off a little. The marks and cut were had a few imperfections when opened up.
Fair

The paper wasn't folded completely straight so the marks did not line up correctly. When opened up it was not round.
Poor

Did not follow the directions. The paper did not have sharp edges on is and the marks were off so the circle was not circular.
Using pattern 5 pts

Excellent

They did an exceptional job cutting out the pattern and tracing it onto the cardboard. All notches were marked correctly. All pieces had straight edges and cuts.
good

They did a very good job cutting out the pattern and tracing it onto the cardboard. The notches were marked very close, pieces had straight edges.
Average

They did a good job cutting out the pattern. When transferring on to the cardboard the notches were not clearly marked. The edges had imperfections.

The pattern was not cut correctly and was not traced properly so the pieces were not straight.

All pieces were exceptionally done so the house was perfectly square and sat perfectly flat on the base.

All pieces were very good. The pieces all went together. All edges were not cut straight so there were a few imperfections.

The pieces were not notched correctly so they need trimmed before they were put together so the house did not sit flat and the edges had several imperfections

The pieces had several imperfection so they had to be trimmed to fit. This caused problems with fitting the house together. It does not sit flat and the edges have many imperfections.

The pieces were so off the house would not go together. They did not redo them so there was no house.
Papier Mache 20 pts

Excellent

All edges were exceptionally done. The paper was completely flat and was glued tight. There were no folds in the paper.

The edges were well done. There were paper was completely flat and was glued down tight, There were under 2 small folds in the paper.
Average

The edges were good but there were little air pockets under the paper and 3-5 folds in the paper. These did not affect the overall look of the project.
Fair

The edges were fair. Some paper had large air pockets and there were many folds in the paper. The mistakes affected the overall look of the projects. Needs to be redone.
Poor

The paper did not stick to the project. The paper is falling off the project. When it did stick it left air pockets or bumps in the paper.
Painting 25 pts

Excellent

Painting was exceptional. All of the lines were perfectly straight.
good

Painting was very good. All of the lines were straight with less than 2 imperfections.
Average

Painting was good. Most of the lines were straight a few places were out of the lines. Some imperfections.
Fair

Painting was fair. Many lines were painted outside of the lines. Spots were missed and cardboard showed through.

The painting was poor. Cardboard were not covered And many spots went out of the lines.
Decorating base 25 pts

Excellent

The base was exceptional The base around the house had at least 7 creatively placed items on the project. The base and edges were painted to look like a yard. A faux finish was used to create this effect or craft materials were used.

The base was very well done. It contained 5 creatively place items on the project. The base was painted to look like a yard. A few craft materials were used.
Average

The base was good. It contained 3 creatively place items on the project. The base was painted to look like a yard.
Fair

The base was fair. It was painted but contained only 1 creative element was used. No faux finish or craft elements were used.
Poor

The yard was not painted well. No creative elements were used.
Decorating house 50 pts

Excellent

The house was exceptional. All craft items and faux finishes were perfectly placed and done. Unexpected elements were used

The house was very well done. Artistic elements were used. They were creatively placed.
Average

The house was good. The elements that they used were done correctly but very few creative elements were used.
Fair

The house was fair. The elements were not done correctly. No creative elements were used.
Poor

The house was not finished. Nothing was use but paint.
