Locomotor Skills 2nd Grade Locomotor Skills 2nd Grade PE 2.2a: Identifies locomotor movement patterns within pathways and extensions. Directions: The teacher will demonstrate basic locomotor skills around in general space. Use this rubric to score each student's accomplishments of locomotor skills. Students will perform 4 different locomotor skills from the list fir a short distance. Add each locomotor skill performed from 1-4, then add totals at the end with total of 16. Locomotor Skills

Skipping	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Understands/describes movement but cannot perform	Proficient Performs step/hop but not completely fluent	Excelling Performs coordinated movement
Jumping (2 feet)	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Little to no balance on take off or landing and looks more like a hop	Proficient Jumps with proper form from one or two feet but shows lack of control on take off or landing	Excelling Jumps from one or two legs with solid take off and landing
Galloping	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Walks or run. Back foot crosses front foot. Turns to side.	Proficient Back foot sometimes crosses front.	Excelling Non-support gallop, leads with 1 foot and has an uneven rhythm.
Hopping (1 foot)	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Cannot balance on one foot on take off or landing	Proficient Hops mostly on one foot but does not use the other foot as well or at all	Excelling Can hop balanced on either foot
Running	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Rarely runs looking straight ahead. Little or no arm movement.	Proficient Usually looks straight ahead with some arm movement.	Excelling Looks straight ahead while running and feet and arms are moving in a straight line in the direction of movement.
Sliding	Attempts Attempting to perform/describe movement	Developing Movement resembles gallop or feet cross.	Proficient Movement is sideways but feet sometimes cross.	Excelling Consistent sideways movement with either foot leading and feet do not cross.
