Teaching Philosophy

A teaching philosophy is a narrative that describes and explains your personal thoughts, beliefs, and opinions regarding teaching and learning. It should be both expository and reflective in nature. It should describe both your ideals and also provide concrete examples of how you put these concepts into practice in your actual teaching.

Teaching Philosophy Students are expected to create a teaching philosophy paper that explains what they think teaching and learning encompasses. This rubric will help students understand the expectations for this paper and give them some ideas on how to start the writing process. The paper should include reflection on past experiences and learning theories that should be used in the classroom. Your thoughts and ideas should be expressed in a clear and concise manner. The paper should be between 500-1000 words.

Learning Theories This section is based on the writers ability to connect teaching to the learning theories. There should be a clear understanding of the theories and how those will be used in the classroom. ____/25	Excellent Paper includes accurate explanations of learning theories and has authentic examples of how learning theories can be used in the classroom. (25-23 points)	Good Paper includes explanations of learning theories but could improve on explaining how they can be put into the classroom. (22-20 points)	Fair Paper mentions learning theories, but does not explain the learning theories or how they fit into the classroom. Reflection This section is based on the writers analysis of past experiences in the classroom as an observer and a teaching assistant during their Early Field Experience.
