Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary 
Students are required to answer comprehension questions doing/after class readings. Students must use creative format to show understanding of vocabulary words and specifically use of similes in a paragraph showcasing one character's personality (group assignment) in poem form.

Adequate attempts to uses detail in answering questions about specific parts of story, and can use similes appropriately within the paragraph.

The level of detail in each sentence is poor and makes no attempt to include textually relevant information.
Approaching the Standard

The level of detail in each sentence is below standard but attempts to engage the text are made.
Meets the Standard

The level of detail in each question is good. Some textual detail.
Exceeds the Standard

The level of detail in each question is excellent. Textual details are relevant and student has connected fully with the literature.
