Characterization

Worked on creating a physical Shakespeare character through business and movement on stage

Poor

There was no characterization AT ALL. Every movement on stage was just the actor being themselves physically and vocally on stage. No reacting to other actors lines at all.
Average

The actors reacted to each other, but all the movements and physicality were just themselves on stage. Wasn't listening on stage to other actors
Excellent

Actors really showed their character through habits they had on stage and STARTED the scene BEFORE they INITIATED the scene.
Renaissance Quality

All of the acting on stage, both physically and vocally, showed the actors moving beyond their own selves and really pushed their character on stage by having lots of habits and big reactions.
Content/Meaning

Sound understanding, analysis, and explanation, of the writing task and text(s).

Poor

Seemed confused and didn't truly understand the scene in the play.

Excellent

Renaissance Quality

Presentation / Memorization

Voice projection. Entertainment value.

Average

Group is somewhat prepared, but we misspoke some of our lines. Presentation is basic.
Excellent

Adequately prepared. There were times when action stopped on stage because of lines
Renaissance Quality

Well prepared. Fully memorized and heard throughout the performance
Command of Language

Understands and can explain Shakespearean language.

Poor

Often paraphrased or misspoke the lines. Didn't show evidence of understanding Shakespeare's language.
Average

Relied on basic vocabulary comprehension. Had a difficult time understanding Shakespearean jargon.
Excellent

The group demonstrated a proficient understanding of Shakespearean language.
Renaissance Quality

Group expertly commanded the language, clearly understanding and expressing what was being said.
Blocking and use of space

Poor

Almost no blocking was created at all and the space was not used the way it should have been
Average

Attempted little blocking and use of space. We moved on stage, but it wasn't motivated. We just paced on stage most of the time.
Excellent

Our group demonstrated enthusiasm, and we presented a dramatic interpretation of the scene. We really used the space.
Renaissance Quality

We invested effort into this activity, and we showed creativity. The scene was taken to a whole new level. We used space and different levels throughout the play. Our movements matched the characters objectives in the scene.
