Using canvas provided and after observing teacher demonstration, apply acrylic paint to night sky scene. Choose bird outline and sketch onto night background, then paint with black paint. You will be graded on circular painting technique and blending technique, as well as quality/detail of your painted bird silhouette.

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 36 measure composition. The composition should include a major and minor scale. They will create their first 16 measures and then change their composition from a major key into a minor key. Students should include the major and minor scales in the first 4 measures before they start their composition. (16 measures of major composition, 16 measures of that composition turned into the minor scale form.)

The purpose of a Socratic Seminar is to achieve a deeper understanding about the ideas and values in a text. In a Seminar, participants question and examine issues and ideas related to a text, and articulate different points-of-view about these issues. Students are required to support every statement with sound reasoning and appropriate examples.

Possible use in evaluating creative problem solving processes and solutions, or creative products as in art, music, drama, role play, student presentations, etc.

Students (individually/small group or with a partner) will research a topic in music history. (Era; composer, genre, etc). Research will be developed into a presentation project of their choice. They may use computers, video, audio, posters, etc. for their project presentation.

Composition project using Mixcraft to create appropriate music in binary or ternary form.

Used for assessing students who perform major scales as a requirement in their music classes.

Theory II Final Project utilizing Finale.

Practical elements and applications of the guiding principles behind the composition of music in the Euro-American tradition. Areas of study include: notation, intervals, diatonic chords, seventh chords, functional harmony, cadences, secondary dominants, voice leading, higher extension chords, form, stylistic elements, ear training, harmonic analysis. Assignments will include mastery level exercises for basic knowledge, writing compositions of various lengths and styles, analysis of provided music, ongoing ear training using computer program and in-class exercises

The students will design lesson plans to be presented during classroom observations by the university supervisor who will use this rubric to grade the lesson plans and presentations.

Critical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploration of issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating an opinion or conclusion. This rubric is designed to be transdisciplinary, reflecting the recognition that success in all disciplines requires habits of inquiry and analysis that share common attributes. Further, research suggests that successful critical thinkers from all disciplines increasingly need to be able to apply those habits in various and changing situations encountered in all walks of life. This rubric is designed for use with many different types of assignments and the suggestions here are not an exhaustive list of possibilities. General Math Rubric
