After students read and discuss "A Festival of Snails" from France magazine, they will create a new reality with something other than snails saving the population from starvation. Students will research the town, the Dordogne region, the snail industry, and their alternate "savior". Students will present their findings in a creative method of their choice.

After the presentation of numbers 1-20, students will choose 4 French numbers that sound like English words. They will create and illustrate a riddle for each of the four numbers they have chosen. Rubric is designed to be applied to each illustration separately. Adding each score together gives the final score.

9 rubric Sports and Leisure Unit Assessment       popup preview  
Students will choose their own partner. Together they will develop a dialogue that both uses the grammar and vocabulary of the unit as well as demonstrates comprehension of the culture associated with the essential question. Students will begin work in class where they will receive feedback and guidance as needed. Work will be completed outside of class with rough draft being submitted digitally for final comments and revision. Students will present dialogue to the class using props and scenery as desired. Fellow students will listen and answer questions about presentations.

After being introduced to the concept of gender being imbedded in French nouns students will create two visual aids. On the front of the Feminine titled page students will list the most common feminine endings, the feminine definite and indefinite articles and a few exceptions. On the back students will add the most common rules governing feminine nouns. Students will also create a corresponding Masculine page.

Students will create graphic and visual organizers and manipulatives for each grammar concept. They will also create maps of the French speaking world. All of these items will be kept in the Reference Section of the Resource Book. These documents will be referred to daily so having them and keeping them in proper order is essential.

The French 1 Units contained in this section are based on the units provided by the Georgia Department of Education. Each unit contains a description of the grammar concepts to be mastered as well as the prerequisite grammar concepts. Each unit also contains all vocabulary pertinent to the topic of the unit. Finally each unit contains possible summative assessment from which the students can choose. All of this information is summarized in a student learning map. In addition to keeping each unit, students should take notes on class lectures and demonstrations. Notes should be typed within one week.

All students in all classes at Valdosta High School are required to engage in Writing to Win activities. During walk-throughs administrators may ask to see individual student's WtW log. In French 1, Writing to Win prompts will be used to assess comprehension of culture, current events, vocabulary, and grammar. In French 1 WtW is synonymous with a quiz. Missed or failed WtW's should be made up in 5th block within a week of the original date.

The Business Section contains all of the rules and requirements that govern the French 1 Honors course at Valdosta High School. It also contains the requirements set forth by the state of Georgia concerning a level 1 language course. Finally, students will use the documents contained in this section to monitor and assess their progress towards successfully mastering French 1. This rubric will first be used 3 weeks into the semester.

Students may choose an ACROSTIC to discuss grammar studied in French 3. Students will write a fact per letter of no less than 4 words pertaining to a particular grammar concept of their choosing. Examples with explanations can be used.
