Guidelines for Expository Writing

Students will view a video clip of a procedure (GetPrepared.ca - "Making a Family Emergency Plan") and write a detailed procedure for a specific audience. Students must include an introduction, materials list, numbered steps, and a conclusion.

Write a Personal Narrative Essay about an memorable moment from your life. Describe your event in sequential order. Include your viewpoint and persoanl reactions in your personal narrative such dialogue, emotions, and sensory details. Your personal narrative should be at least three paragraphs essay -Intro, Body, and Conclusion.

Students will use food items to create a model of a Plant Cell. Students will be able to describe what each part of a cell does inside the cell. Students will describe the organelles and what differences there are between Animal and Plant cells.

Write a persuasive piece of writing that convinces your teacher to not eat turkey for Thanksgiving. This persuasive writing task must contain 3-4 paragraphs to organise your ideas . You should incorporate persuasive strategies and convincing persuasive language to help strengthen your argument. Your writing must planned and carefully edited, paying attention to your spelling and punctuation.

Create a book report using a paper bag. The bag must contain 3 objects that represent important events from the book. Each item needs to be symbolic of an main character, setting, problem, or event in the story.

A rubric to assess an open ended Science project on the student's heredity tree and family traits.

The purpose is to tell your audience how to do or make something. This rubric scores the written and presentation of your instructions. This project is due on June 12, 2015.

Choose 3 countries and create a climate fact file for each. Each fact file should include the average temperature, average rainfall, humidity (example high, low or moderate), when their rainy season is and the winds (example Polar Easterlies, Westerlies, N.E. Trade Winds or S.E. Trade Winds). Include at least 1 photo per country. An example of a climate fact file can be found in their Social Studies textbook page 86. We went through 2 different examples to submit this project, but if your child comes up with a different layout, please have them speak to me first. This is due April 25, 2012.

Fourth grade has been learning about the Caribs and the Arawaks for Social Studies. We have been learning about how they lived, how they built their huts, what they used for transportation, what tools they used to hunt with and so forth. Our project now is to build a diorama or a model on some aspect of their life. This will be due on March 1, 2021.

Create a ‘Double Bubble’ comparing and contrasting these very different animals. Find out at least 3 things that are similar and 3 things that are different. Please use as much science vocabulary as you can to describe your animals. When your scientific art piece is complete, you will need to type a 3-paragraph research paper on your findings. See attached handout for more details.

Book report for Number the Stars. Due Thursday, April 14, 2011.

Grade 4 is beginning a new science unit on Planets and Other Objects in Space. For our project, students will take their knowledge of our solar system and create a 3-dimensional model of it. The planets should be in the correct order and be relatively proportioned to each other (example: Mars should not be bigger than Jupiter). The sun should be included as part of the solar system. All planets should be clearly labeled in some way. This is a project meant to not only see how students view the solar system, but to also showcase their creativity. Students are encouraged to use color and to get creative while learning. This project is worth 30 points and is due March 21. Each student will have to present their project to the class, so they should come prepared to discuss how their 3-D solar system model was created and be able to discuss a little about each planet.

You are to choose one aspect of Cayman Culture and research it. For example: Music, Dance, Festivals or Food. After you have done your research on your chosen topic, you are to present 2 sides of paper plus pictures, or you can put the information on a poster board. Explain how your aspect of culture is used in Cayman, but you can also add influences from other parts of the world that influence culture in Cayman.

First grade had to create one (1) animal from a group that was assigned during class, and tell me all about it. The animal should be placed in a model of its natural surrounding/habitat (where it lives or can be naturally found). The student should tell me all about the animal, including the group that it’s in, the food that it eats, where it lives, and any interesting facts that he/she wants to share with the class.

Grade 1 had to collect 6 different types of seeds and make a seed collection poster. Write the name of the seeds.

First grade has been learning about the community. Our project now, is to build a shoebox diorama showcasing a community. This will be due on October 6, 2010. Remember, in a community, you find buildings, plants, animals and people.
