Students will construct a collage in which pictures will be used to represent the following concepts in unit 1: prime, composite, odd and even numbers, factors, multiples, GCF and LCM.

Students will create factor trees within their team, one per student. Each of the factor trees start with a number of at least 50.

Students will pick a special number between 10-100 to demostrate their understanding of Prime and composite numbers, multiples, factors, odd and even and prime factorization.

A lesson in division, its relationship to multiplication

Writing multiplication equations that describe dot arrangements; using arrays to model multiplication; determining whether one number is a factor or multiple of another; identifying prime, square, even and odd numbers; determining whether one number is a factor or multiple of another; using known multiplication combinations to find equivalent mulitplication combinations (including those related by place value); finding all the factors of a number; and determining the prime factorization of a number.

Task: Students will add and subtract 2-digit math equations using regrouping strategies.

After modeling, demonstration and practice the student will be able to recognize the number, write the number and draw pictures representing the value of the number with 85% - 100% accuracy as determined through teacher observation and completion of an assignment.

As a conclusion to learning the various methods of performing multiplication, a performance will be used to assess the readiness level of students. This performance will have students act out the real-life scenario of purchasing items at a bakery. Working in groups of three, the students will be required to "buy" multiple items and by using the three methods of multiplication that were taught; guess and check, long multiplication, and lattice multiplication, be able to correctly solve the problems and give the correct amount of "money" to the store clerk. The students will reenact this scenario ten times using different quantities of differently priced items. This demonstration will be scored with the following rubric.
