The purpose of this assignment to demonstrate proficiency of visual literacy by creating a photo essay that communicates a compelling story. A series of 10 photos with written captions must be used.The student must photograph the images used. All images show a clear connection to the story message. Proficiency of on-line tools is also assessed.

Assesses student understanding and application of art criticism steps using Feldman's 4 step Art Criticism model

In groups or independently, the student will create a presentation on the history of photography. It can focus on either, a specific style (fashion, journalism, etc,.), technology or artistic movements. At the end of the presentation, each student should pick a favorite photographer, include some biographical info and examples of the artist's work.

Mindmapping for AP Art Concentration

Use of graphic organizers to record information from brainstorming sessions, existing knowledge and research for an assigned topic.

Students will brainstorm a list of expectations that should be followed by every 5th grade student in our classroom. The students will be graded on teamwork/effort/critical thinking.

Art students should be able to successfully critique their own artwork and that of others using terminology that is understandable and relevant to students in Art 3.

This rubric is used for a one point perspective city drawing

Observational drawing from a still life. Students will apply drawing and shading techniques including sight measurement, (shape and proportions) adding texture, positive negative space, value and ling they have learned to render a final drawing that illustrates their understanding of drawing concepts we have studied in class.

Art project on 19th & 20th C art movements and collage making.

The student will create a short clip using Stop Motion techniques. The movie will be a PSA (Public Service Announcement). Each group will select an issue to create an "animated message/story" in 1 minute. Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence.

Students create artwork that demonstrates a purposeful use of the elements and principles of design to convey meaning and/or emotion.
