Magnets have many real world applications. Magnets can be found in use all over the world in medicine, vehicles, animal migration, space travel, home appliances, and power plants. Your goal to identify an area in our world today that uses magnets. Then write a 3-5 page detailed report on how magnets are used in your chosen area. Include information on what type of magnets are used, how they are used, are the magnets used to create or control an electrical current, and any other topic we have discussed so far in this unit. Use reliable internet sources, along with science journals, textbooks, and periodicals to do your research. You will also be required to make a poster or Prezi, or video as a presentation of your topic. Your work needs to demonstrate participation and understanding of ALL team members.

Every Friday, students will complete some research into a topic of their choosing for 8 weeks. At the end of the Genius Hour Project, the students will create a culminating activity based on what they discovered through their independent research.

Objective: Students will research how musical instruments make sounds and the four basic categories of musical instruments (string, wind, brass, and percussion). Students will construct and present a homemade musical instrument from recycled materials. They will be required to play a simple song on their instrument.

Construct an energy transformation diagram illustrating a minimum of five different energy transformations. This diagram must show your understanding of multiple FORMS of energy and be an accurate representation of how energy changes forms. On the back of your transformation diagram, you must create a summary explanation of what is happening to the energy in your diagram.

This rubric will assist in assessing a oral presentation on a scientist. The students will choose and a scientist and make an oral presentation. They are then to complete a final presentation which will include a cereal box report about the scientist. In addition, they will be presenting this information orally to their peers.

The students will put together an electronic presentation to show during their oral presentation. The presentation will contain information that the students collected regarding science information researched. The oral presentation must be aligned with current research.

The students will perform an oral presentation of their choosing (skit, rap battle, play, or song parody)
