Third graders will research a Native American (handed out randomly). The finished product will be done in computers. All work will be done in school.

This rubric is for evaluating argument essays and the ability to formulate argumentative writings. You read 3 articles in class and used a template to write your argument. The assignment is to write a 5- paragraph argument, including a counter argument, on whether cell phones should be allowed for academic purposes in the classroom.

Research an author to determinw the cultural and literary influences that have affected his or her style (and subjects) of writing. Use MLA format for the heading, body, parenthetical notes, works cited, etc. Submit 3-5 typed pages of publishing the results of your research. Include a Works Cited page with at least 5 sources used researching the paper. Two must be by the author. The other three must be about the author. Paper will be graded on quality of research, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, and relevance of included information. Grade will be also consider organization, clarity, use of transitions, appropriate voice, correct citation format, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Because the rubric will be used with novice writers, students will be able to get an A without reaching full mastery of all items.

This writing assignment will be graded on writing conventions, the mechanics of writing.

This rubric assesses the students ability to properly identify the Rhetorical Devices: Ethos, Pathos, Logos for the assigned text

You are to research the assigned rhetorical terms in action list and complete a rhetorical device analysis on each of the given terms. The assignment must be completed in powerpoint format. Use the Rhetorical Terms in Action worksheet to assist in organization and content. Each slide must provide explanations and examples for a rhetorical device and present it in a manner that is bother literary and visual.

Students are to write a paragraph using vivid imagery to help readers visualize the first time you ever ate a chocolate kiss.

You are to draw the images you see in your mind after reading of Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God

Students will research a topic of their choice. 4 to 5 pages, double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman.

Research the approved topic. Submit one 2-3 page typed paper, double spaced, 12 point font following MLA guidelines. Include a bibliography citing at least 3 resources used researching the paper. Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and bibliography.

Essay will examine the style of a poet we have read together in class. In this essay, you will you analyze the poet's use of literary elements (parts of the poem and figures of speech) and use this analysis to interpret the style of the author. In other words, what is a good description of the poet's style and what are two elements that are used similarly in the poetry that help to contribute to that style?
