To commemorate Native American Heritage Month (November), students will engage in a long-term project on Native Americans who lived in Ohio. Students will choose a Native American tribe to research. The students will then decide on three topics that they would like to investigate. Students will use note cards to record and organize their information. Students need visual aids (a minimum of three) to accompany their oral presentations.

In order for the students to have a better understanding and knowledge of the contributions of African Americans, they will be creating a Black History Month ABC book. The students will select a famous African American for each letter of the alphabet and complete research in order to explain why that person is important. Each page of the book should include at least three important facts and one picture.

Journal entries MUST be complete and organized. If you are absent, write the word "absent" across the page for the date you missed. You will need to make-up that entry with a partner on your own time. If your journal is missing/late 2 pts. (see scoring) will be deducted for each missing day. No exceptions. You will still need to complete your journal on a sheet of paper and staple it into journal. If you lose your journal, you are responsible for replacing it.

For Black History Month, students are to research and write a 2-3 page biography on important historical figure. These biographies include information on the person's early life, what contributions they made to society, 2-3 interesting or unique facts about the person, and the students own reflections about the person and their contributions and what they have learned. In addition to a 2-3 page paper, the students are required to make something that represents their person. The students will be presenting their person and object to the class. They will have to speak to the class about their person in a 2-3 minutes presentation. Flash cards may be used during presentation. The students are not expected to read their two to three page papers word for word.
