Narrative
Write a narrative using a Story Starter visual prompt. Students will be assessed on the narrative structure, audience, ideas, character and setting, vocabulary, paragraphing, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and cohesion. This criteria are based on NAPLAN marking criteria for a narrative assessment.

Beowulf: An Epic in Text Messages
Part A: Students work in pairs to do a close reading of a section of Seamus Heaney's Beowulf, then create a text message string between two characters in modern language, while maintaining the theme and overall development of the poem. Part B: After the teacher organizes the text messages, students present their section to the class, resulting in "Beowulf: An Epic in Text Messages." Students take notes on the presentations and use these notes to write the summary (another rubric).
