Oral Presentation Rubric

Students will be creating their own historical fiction story using historical "hobo code".

Mind Map Rubric - Adapted from Beyond Monet by Bennett and Rolheiser.

Students are to write a short horror story that demonstrates their understanding of the stages of plot, the characteristics of a short story and literary elements.

Students will make a political cartoon to represent their viewpoint(s) of American Revolution/Rebellion. Cartoon must include elements typically found in a political cartoon.

This rubric is for reflection, reading response, or journal topics.

Students are to create a power point slide(s) outlining important points about slave rebellions in the Americas Students must present information & power point presentation to the class. The power point should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the topic researched and allow the presenter an opportunity to present (not just read slides to the audience); students will give appropriate credit to where information was gathered.

Students will investigate a "mock" crime scene. The scene will be setup by assigned students in the class, and investigated a by another goup of students within the class. Students will apply their extensive knowledge of crime scene investigation procedures and tactics. A heavy concentration on Forensic Investigation techniques and use of technology will be evaluated.

Students will create a propaganda poster. Your poster must include at least one of the types of propaganda discussed in class. You must also include on the back of the poster paragraph describing your poster and the type of propaganda being used.

Students will write a prequel to the poem Lady of Shalott.

Investigate the events of the Holocaust in Europe, and the effect on Canada, and the world.

A WebQuest for student Holocaust research. This rubric will be linked to my web site on "Remembering the Holocaust".

This rubric evaluates the students ability to incorporate historical facts to create an intresting, and thought provoking journal entry.

As a Canadian soldier fighting on the front line, students write a letter home to a loved one describing life in the trenches.

This rubric is meant to help guide in the creation of your PowerPoint presentation project. Each category in the far left column represents a component of the project that will be taken into consideration when calculating the final grade for this assignment. Review the rubric carefully before, during and after the creation of the PowerPoint presentation, to ensure that all intended elements of your powerpoint have been represented and all other criteria have been met.

Short Essay

For this research essay, you are to research a topic of your choice, as long as it concerns an area of Black history. It can concern an event, person, or place. This is to be 1000 - 1200 words long. It must be 1.5 spacing, using a common 12 font. See guideline for further information. The paper will be graded on quality of research, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources and relevance of included information.

Students will "pitch" TV pilot shows through writing a pilot script for a series on the Middle Passage.

General group work peer evaluation form Students will complete this evaluation about their partner/group mates & one about themselves to show the instructor how well each member participated in the accomplishment of their group task.
