This rubric will be used to evaluate short-answer essays to questions about literature.

Students created an essay that informs the reader about a topic that the author is familiar with or has researched.

The Veldt Part I-Viewing the short story, The Veldt, through the lens of justice, do you think the children should be held accountable for their actions? Why or why not? Give evidence from the text. Part II – The theme is “The Dangers of Technology.” Do you believe that technology will become more harmful as it advances? Use evidence from the text and from your personal experiences. Part III – What lesson did you learn from this story, and why?

Students describe the first Ancient Civilization of Sumer. Students read an informative article in class in Newsela. Students took notes in class and then wrote an informative essay using information from the Newsela text.

First attempt at a Science Experiment Genius Hour

Create a play using the 12 steps of a Hero's Journey then act out the play.

You will create a play based on a Revolution. You are going to create a play. Your play will be based one of the many revolutions that has taken place somewhere in the world (i.e. the American Revolution, the Mexican Reolution, the Boxer Rebellion.) Your play must explain what a revolution is, include the causes and consequences of the the revolution, include at least two key players (this may be kings, military leaders or revolutionary thinkers) and be at least 3 minutes long.

This is the first attempt at Genius Hour for the school year. First time for a few.

Pick a scene from the book and create a diorama. A diorama is a miniature scene in a box. This diorama is from the Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, so use of a 2 liter plastic soda bottle is required. With your created diorama, you will write a one-page explanation of the scene and characters in the scene and why you believe this was an important scene in the novel. Please write the paper in 3rd person using correct conventions.

Synthesis essay scoring rubric.

Students will use this rubric as they write a short research paper about a topic of choice. It will be their grading rubric when the paper is completed.

Write narratives with theme, patterns, plot, dialogue, and showing character traits.

Students demonstrate knowledge of character traits by creating a graph with traits and assigning characters to the graph then justifying why that character fits in that trait using examples from the novel.
