Rhetorical Analysis

Students will write to enhance the ability to develop character descriptions as well as a story line with a sequence of events, climax, and resolution.

The purpose of this assignment is to serve as an introduction to photo essays and visual thinking by working on a series (minimum 6 photos) of pictures. The pictures must have something in common at the concept level. Examples: 6 or more pictures of an event in sequence, a series of photos describing a process, a series of photos describing an idea, etc… No words/characters/numbers are allowed in telling your stories.

The purpose of this project is to develop understanding and empathy through an exploration of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Students chose a theme and created a thesis statement based on Truth and Reconciliation, and created a photo essay of 6-10 photos exploring their thesis.

Oral Presentation.

Short Story Presentation that evaluates the following areas: 1. The summary of the plot of the story. 2. Critical analysis 3. Discussion questions 3. The analysis of literary techniques used in the work. 4. The quality of the powerpoint/poster used in the presentation. 5. The use of hand-outs for presenation. 6. The quality of the oral presentation. 7. The preparedness of the presentation. 8. The timeliness of the assignment.

This rubric will be used to evaluate creative responses to short stories.
