Grade 1 Community Helpers Project
Students will choose a community worker and decide in which community they would belong. They will then illustrate their community worker in their community using labels. The students will write a few sentences explaining who their community worker is, which community they belong to, what kinds of tools they use, whether they provide goods or services and how they contribute to the community. Each student’s paper will they be compiled in to a communities book for our classroom library.

Planet research project
Research your assigned planet. Conduct research through various websites and books on your planet. Generate a 3 paragraph research paper on your planet. Be sure to include; size, color, placement in solar system, orbit, and other information about the planet. Must use a minimum of 2 sources and you must cite sources. Students are also required to submit a cover page with their final report; name, date, and title.

Rubric for Persuasive Letter
Students decide whether or not they think the main character in, "To Tell the Truth" should have apologized for how he treated Donna. Students must write a persuasive letter to either Donna or Dad, explaining their position. The letter must be written in the voice of the main character.

Filtration Investigation
Experiments can be done to show how dissolved materials can move through soil and enter a groundwater aquifer. But soil and plants have something of a dual role in this process. Depending on whether materials are dissolved or suspended in the water, soils and plant roots can remove some or all of this material as the water moves down through soil. Most suspended materials will adhere to the soil.
