Literature review
A comprehensive synthesis of the literature pertinent to a particular area of potential research. Paper should include a title page, abstract, introduction, and review of the read research, a summary, and references. All should adhere to APA formatting. There is no length requirements but it is anticipated that the average body length would be 15-25 pages.

Research Proposal Presentation
The purpose of a research proposal is to outline all areas of a potential study to an audience in order to receive feedback, input, and critique. An excellent proposal will include a rationale for the research, an overview of the existing research, a list of the research questions, proposed methodology, instrumentation, population/sample, potential confounds, and expected findings.

Human Development & Counseling Presentation
Choose a human development theory -as a group will provide an overview of the theory, basic principles, and how to apply it. Focus on the application of the theory to counseling and provide examples of how this knowledge can be used in practical settings. For example, a case study of and how you would counsel an individual from this point of view. You must also present the class with an annotated bibliography of extra readings. Each group will be asked to give a 15 - 20 minutes.

A 6-8 page examination of your initial thoughts and reflections about 1) The use and role of theoretical orientations in counseling; 2) Three theoretical orientations with which you believe you most closely identify and why; and 3) Two to three theoretical orientations you least identify with and why.

An 8-10 page research paper expounding on how to properly use multiple theories to treat a singular case. Using the case of Kate you will 1) Identify and discuss the most pertinent clinical issues; 2) Choose three counseling theories to help frame treatment of these issues; 3) Rationale for choosing these theories; 4) Examples of techniques and expected outcomes of using these.

Career Counseling Session
The student will work with a peer to demonstrate a mock 20-minute counseling session using a career theory as a foundation for the session. Basic counseling/interviewing skills will be evaluated along with the process of counseling/advisement and the use of a career intervention/technique. Clients should role-play as though they are unsure what to do with their next career steps after recently graduating from undergraduate school.

Multicultural Career Counseling Project
Students will be assigned to work in groups of three (3) to four (4) to develop and design a career counseling center for a specific group (elementary, middle/junior high, high school, college or vocational/technical school, private practice, employment agency, or a business), using a multicultural/diversity approach and grounded in a theoretical concept. Each group will be asked to give a 20-25 minutes presentation in class on the date assigned.

Family Career Genogram
Students will create a representation of the occupations represented in their family over the past three generations (parent, grandparents, great-grandparents). The activity will provide students with insight into their families of origin and issues of work, career, gender role, social class, decision-making skills, worldview, racial identity and culture. Genograms will be shared in class.
