Rhythm Composition

Students will use notes and rests to compose a 20 measure composition. The composition should include a combination of whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes and rests. They will create their composition in a meter of three or a meter of four.

Musical Composition

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 36 measure composition. The composition should include a major and minor scale. They will create their first 16 measures and then change their composition from a major key into a minor key. Students should include the major and minor scales in the first 4 measures before they start their composition. (16 measures of major composition, 16 measures of that composition turned into the minor scale form.)

Grade levels: 6-8
