About Me

I believe that our education system should be devoted to both enriching students personally, as individuals, and to helping them develop skills that they can use to contribute to a tolerant, vibrant nation. American citizens must be literate in the areas of history, economics, politics, geography, and government to be able to form sound civic judgments and work toward social change. Fundamentally, education provides us with the skills we need to fully participate as citizens in our national life, as well as to achieve our own personal ambitions. True democracy requires citizens to participate in public decision-making with concern for the common good, and this can only be achieved if the population is able to access and evaluate information with sophistication and confidence. Guided practice in using one’s mind well, in such exercises as investigative research, reflection, examination of multiple perspectives, debate, and compromise are critical elements of my educational practice. Foundational communication skills such as articulate speaking, clear writing, and focused listening are also essential to the future success of our students, since these skills will allow them to accurately convey their ideas and proactively pursue their goals.

My mission as a tutor is to help students develop the skills, competencies, and habits to carry them confidently toward their individual academic goals.  Through personalized planning and attention to detail, I can deliver instruction and support in many academic areas.
