About Me

With over 15 years of experience in managerial and supervisory positions, I would like to think I have developed a "knack" for start-ups and turnarounds. Part of that comes from first real job as a due-diligence analyst for a boutique investment firm, where I had to determine the feasibility of dozens of investment projects offered through the firm. In time, however, I have been fortunate enough to actively participate in the launch of at least three successful start-ups as well as lead turn-around efforts for three other organizations of varying sizes. I am currently embarked on my fourth turnaround project.

For me, the most rewarding part of teaching is when a student finally grasps a difficult concept and has that "oohhhh" look that generally accompanies an epiphany. Of all the courses I have taught, I enjoy teaching Strategic Management and Marketing the most, primarily because they have been my main fields of professional experience. I also find Production and Operations Management to be a challenging and enjoyable course to teach, as I have found it in practice to be fundamental for the implementation of turn-arounds and start-ups. My recent interest in online marketing has also driven me to develop a seminar and an undergraduate course in the topic, which has become not just important but necessary in today's business environment.

I consider myself a proficient administrator and executive, not a scholar. I earned by MBA from The American University in Washington, DC; and my BBA from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. I have plans to start my Doctoral studies in the future, but it is not a short-term priority for me. I have met enough accomplished and successful people without graduate degrees to understand the value of hard work and talent, not just credentials.

Above all, I am a family man. My wife Danice, my daughter Daniela (11) and my son Ricardo (8) are the reasons why I get up every day. I would love to say that I have exciting hobbies, but my free time is for my family, so I gave up personal hobbies a long time ago.

That's me, in a nutshell.
