Lambda Nu Radiologic Honor Society, Georgia Chi Chapter
A Reflection on Leadership:
In the beginning of this practicum, it was actually not a difficult decision for me to choose Lambda Nu as my Leadership Project. The Constitution was already in place, completed by a group of students before me as a leadership project. I was familiar with the chapter constitution. I attended the AASU student activities board meeting with the faculty advisors for Constituition approval prior to the class. Also, I was genuinely interested in having an honor society in place before graduation. The only problem was that the student interest did not seem that high.
As the weeks went by, I found my biggest challenge was myself. Trying to juggle other class work with this project, having to speak to a large group, trying to "sell" this organization to my peers, and create my very own webpage did not sound like fun to me. Why would students listen to me when I told them that this honor society was something they should do? I think it is a great opportunity, but how to convey that message to other stressed out, poor students who did not need "one more thing to do" was the challenge. And I do not consider myself technologically savvy, so creating a webpage (ePortfolio) seemed like a huge feat. Then, there was asking the faculty for money... My thought was, "Is this appropriate?"
Now, that this project is complete, I feel it was a success. I have implemented what was needed and did a few extra things along the way. I found that its better to take a risk at looking stupid and ask for things you need. You never know what you might get. As a leader, I can say I feel I have grown. Sometimes, getting out of your comfort zone, getting a little push, is all one needs to be a successful leader. Sometimes you'll find you had it all along. Hopefully, I can continue to grow throughout the next several months as a leader in Lambda Nu and in the future as a professional.
