Lambda Nu Radiologic Honor Society, Georgia Chi Chapter
Project Purpose:
The Lambda Nu Honor Society Practicum Project will provide a prestigious academic organization for radiologic and imaging sciences students and professionals. Ultimately, the establishment of the Georgia Chi Chapter of Lambda Nu will allow schloarship, service and networking opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni in the Radiologic Sciences fields.
Goals:
1) Provide an opportunity for student membership to Georgia Chi Chapter of Lambda Nu National Honor Society this semester (Fall'08).
2) Implement an organized structure to the chapter so that it can continue operation after this project is complete by electing officers.
3) Allow AASU alumni the opportunity to learn about and join Lambda Nu.
Acheivements:
The first goal of providing student membership was more successful than I anticipated. An interest meeting was held for all students who met the Lambda Nu criteria. Approximately twenty students came to the meeting and a lot of email response was received from those who could not attend the meeting. Lunch was donated by several generous faculty members. Food always makes a meeting more fun! The outcome of the meeting was that 30 student members joined (and paid national dues). Now, I am awaiting the certificates of membership to arrive. One thing that I would change about the initial membership is handling of dues. Instead of accepting cash or check for national membership dues, I would accept check or money order. I ended up writing checks out of my own accout for those student who gave cash. It was a little confusing, trying to figure out who gave the cash.
My second goal of electing officers was also acheived. Since time was limited, nominations were accepted at the initial meeting and extended for a week. After the week was through, I created an eBallot to be filled out by all active members (those who have paid national dues). Dr. Strickland, our faculty advisor, was the official tabulator of the eBallot election. Senior officers were elected as follows:
President: Kami Bodnar
Vice President: Miranda Womack
Secretary: Kassie Moore
Treasurer: Karina Dean
I initially did not intend to run for office, since this is my leadership project and I was just providing the forum to initiate Lambda Nu at AASU, but I was nominated and could not turn the nomination down. So, here I am as president. Three offices, President, Secretary, and Treasurer, only received one nomination. The vice president office was therefore, the only one that really needed a vote to determine the office holder. If doing this again,I don't know that I would change the voting process. It would be nice to see a little competition in the election. Next year, with Georgia Chi Chapter already in place, it will definitely be different.
The third goal, gave me some problems. After combing meticulously through the Constitution, I realized that the requirements for alumni membership were not clearly stated. I met with Dr. Strickland, faculty advisor, about this issue. The Constitution may have its first amendment before the end of the year:) I contacted Mrs. Myka Campbell about holding the induction ceremony along with the alumni dinner in the spring. This will promote alumni awareness. Also, I registered on Facebook so I can contact alumni that way. The completion of this goal is a work in progress. Until, the Constitution issue is resolved, I don't feel contacting alumni is a great idea. As the new president, this is something that I will work on immediately.
Overall, I feel this project was a success. Thirty charter student members, and four senior officers elected in 7 weeks, wow aren't we smart! Lambda Nu will now become a continued tradition in academic acheivement at AASU.
