Problem Solving Skills

Problem Solving Skills

Being a good nurse requires problem solving skills.  If certain interventions are not working for a patient we need to be able to figure out something different that will work for yout patient. For example, say there is a patient who has developed redness on the back and sacrum despite a turning schedule of every two hours.  As the nurse we must reconze this problem and implement a new plan of care that maybe includes barrier cream and a specialized mattress to prevent further skin breakdown.

These type of situations are a daily activity for nurses.  With various types and patients and patient problems our brains are intuned to problem solving.  If one solution is not working we find another.  This skill requres determination and persaverence, two qualities all nurses have.
