About Me
About Me
My name is Amoena Norcross, and I have lived in the Upstate of South Carolina since 1992. Before coming to the Upstate, I was a graduate student in Columbia, SC, studying at the University of South Carolina.

I was born in Stuttgart, Germany, but moved to the United States with my parents when I was a baby. I grew up in my formative years on the east coast of Florida. I lived for thirteen years in Titusville which is located directly west of Cape Kennedy. As a child, I saw many Apollo rockets launched from Cape Kennedy. I also visited Disney World at least a dozen times when tickets were still used for the different rides. After leaving Titusville, my mother and I moved further down the Florida peninsula to Boca Raton, where I graduated from high school and from Florida Atlantic University. Although I was not born in Florida, I consider myself a native Floridian! Below is some additional information about me.
Education:
· M.A., University of South Carolina
Employment:
I've been at Tri-County Technical College since January 1992. When I was hired, I was charged with implementing a writing-across-the-curriculum program, and I also established the College's first Writing Center. The Writing Center is still in operation and is available to help students improve their writing skills. I have also taught at the following institutions:
· Midlands Technical College
· University of South Carolina
· Oklahoma Native American Languages Development Institute

· The role of ethics in workplace communication
· Reflections of culture in language and literature
· Native American Indian languages, especially Shawnee and other Algonquian languages

Hobbies:
In my spare time, I like to do a lot of different things. I love to travel--I probably got this trait from my German mother since we traveled to visit my German relatives in Germany quite often when I was growing up. I also love to camp in the mountains and at the beach. Camping in the mountains offers something different for me since I grew up in the flatlands of Florida, but camping at the beach reminds me of being on the Florida coast. Of course, while camping at the beach, I love to go fishing, crabbing, and shrimping as well as eat the seafood I catch. Finally, I also enjoy attending multi-day music festivals, especially the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. If I don't have enough spare time to do any of the above, I enjoy entertaining and socializing with my friends.
