 RCC Comprehensive Patient Care

 

           RCC dental hygiene program  dedicated to provide preventative and therapeutic dental care. Comprehensive patient care is defined a care planned to address all oral and dental needs of the patients based on thorough diagnosis and treatment planning. RCC Dental Clinic is primarily a teaching clinic, and therefore patients receiving dental hygiene care will be participating in the teaching program. Patients will be accepted only if they are considered suitable as teaching cases. Treatment will be performed by a student and will be supervised by a dentist and dental hygiene program faculty. Treatment under supervision generally requires more time than in done in a private practice and most appointments will be approximately two and a half to three hours in length. For adults, multiple appointments may be required. The Dental Clinic has a policy regarding appointments.

 

Services Provided:

- Blood pressure, pulse and respiration screenings

- Radiographs

- Oral lesions screenings

- Pit and Fissure Sealants

- Adult/Child Cleanings

- Preventive Dental Education

- Topical fluoride treatments

- Periodontal scalings and root planing (with limitations)

- Dental nutritional counseling

- Smoking Cessation

 

           The Dental Hygiene Program Clinic is not a substitute for a regular visit to your dentist. It is recommended that all patients seek dental care between visits. In certain cases, treatment in the Dental Hygiene Program Clinic may be refused until treatment is provided by the patient's dentist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or a legan guardian, who must remain in the clinical reception area duing appointment. The consent for treatmetn nust be signed by a parent or a legal guardian prior to providing treatment for children under 18 years of age.

 

Consent to Dental Procedures

Before receiving treatment at the Dental Clinic, patients will be asked by the students about the procedure(s) which they are recommended to undergo. Patients are welcomed to ask any questions they may have before they decide whether to give their consent for the procedure(s) to be done. Patients have the right to be informed of any risks and complications, the expected benefit, and the availability of alternative methods of treatment. Patients have the right to consent or to refuse and proposed procedure at any time prior to its performance.

 

Criteria for Patient Acceptance

The following items must be met before acceptance as a patient in the Dental Clinic:

Free from any medical or dental condition which would make treatment hazardous to patient or operator. Oral conditions are considered acceptable for student learning.

Patient interest in learning preventive oral care techniques. Patient cooperation in keeping clinic appointments on time. The Program Director reserves the right to refuse or discontinue treatment when indicated.

 

Radiographs "X-rays"

Dental radiographs will be taken as necessary and as appropriate for dental assessments, dental examinations, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment. In certain cases, treatment in the Dental Clinic will be refused without current radiographs present. Copies or originals of radiographs taken previously may be used if they are considered current and adequate by the supervising dentist.

 

Financial Responsibility

Patients who receive treatment in the Dental Clinic will be charged for treatment according to the fee schedule in effect. A fee estimate will be provided prior to beginning treatment and patient must be prepared to pay for services rendered. Patients are personally responsible for payment of services at the Dental Clinic

 

Dental Records

The records, x-rays, photographs, models, and other materials relating to the treatment in the Dental Clinic are the property of RCC Dental Clinic. Patient may also request to have one set of dental x-rays at no cost, by signing a release of information form. In addition, patients' dental/medical records may be used for instructional purposes and if they are, patients' identity will not be disclosed to individuals not directly involved in your care and treatment.
