Alternative Break: China

About Us

We are a group of 10 UCSD students going to volunteer in Xi'an, China during Spring Break.  For our organization, the trip is only the second part of the journey.  Before the trip, we take turns teaching each other about different aspects of the culture, and people of the community that we will be serving.  In addition, we plan to also hold panels so that we may educate ourselves, and the rest of the UCSD community about China.  As Site-Leaders, we hope to help our members further develop skills that will help them throughout the trip, and life.  On the trip, we will be working side-by-side with local grassroots organizations on various projects to help improve the community.  Through service, we hope to improve our cross-cultural understanding and communication as well as become more culturally aware and better global citizens.  Cross Cultural Solutions, the nonprofit organization that we will be volunteering through, will also offer cultural programming that will allow us to learn about the history and culture firsthand from local experts as well as experience the food, sounds, and historic sites we have learned about.
