Submission Info

If you would like to submit your poetry, prose, short stories, lyrics, plays, photography, artwork, or 3D art pieces (photographs of) for consideration in the 2008 issue of the Temper please read on...

  • You must currently be a registered UCSD undergraduate student.
This is due to the fact that we get our funding from A.S. who in turn gets their money from fees charged to the current UCSD undergraduates.

  • You can submit up to four entries per year.
Please consider the fact that our journal is only around 100 pages long and our art and photography insert can only accomodate 14 entries. Thus a single literary piece should be no longer than about 10-12 pages or it will have a a lower chance of being selected. Also very short pieces, such as a single 4 line haiku, also tend to get the shaft, so it is suggested in the case of very short pieces, that you instead compile an entire page of short poems to increase your chances of being selected. So basically entries between 1 -10 pages have better chances of being selected. Also remember that every literary piece that you submit will be read by all of our staff members.

Now the actual process of submitting...

  • For literary works, in order of our prefrence:
  1. Save all of your literary pieces being submitted in a single MS Word document, with every individual piece separated by a page break and titled. Attach this file to an email and send to temper@ucsd.edu or
  2. Simply put your literary pieces in the message body of an email and be sure to denote different pieces with some sort of break and don't forget to title them. Send this email to temper@ucsd.edu or
  • For artwork and photography:
The preferred method is to scan or photograph your work and email the copies as individual attachments to temper@ucsd.edu.
  • For music:
You can submit a musical score that you have composed by simply attaching it to an email and sending that to temper@ucsd.edu. Or you can send us a link to a website that has an Mp3 version of your composition. If you want you can do both.

For all submissions please include your name and an email address or local telephone number so that we can contact you if we have any questions. Also if you want you can include your year, college, age, sex, where you heard about us from, etc... so that we can see where our submissions are coming from. You may also submit anonymously if you choose. Thank you very much, and good luck.
