Power Ones

The introduction of the topic and the concluding sentence.

Level 1

Does not include Power One at the beginning and ending of the paragraph.
Level 2

Includes either one of the two Power Ones, or they are weak.
Level 3

Includes both Power Ones. Starts and ends the paragraph strongly.
Level 4

Power Ones are strong and interesting. Opening sentence grabs the reader's attention.
Power Twos

Contains two subtopics which are explained briefly.
Level 3

Contains three subtopics relevant to the subject.

Level 2

Few supporting details are included.
Level 3

Supporting details are included for each subtopic.
Level 4

The supporting details for each subtopic are compelling and interesting. They clearly relate to the subtopic.
Transitions and Organization

Level 1

Paragraph seems disorganized with few transition words.
Level 2

Paragraph is somewhat organized and some transition words are included.
Level 3

Organization is solid and transitions words are included.
Level 4

Organization and transitions words are natural and fluent. Paragraph flows well.
Mechanics

Level 1

There are three or more capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.
Level 2

There are two capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.
Level 3

There is one capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.
Level 4

There are no capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.
