Student Manipulated Elements of Movement Assessment In a small group, students will demonstrate their understanding of the elements of dance by manipulating a teacher devised phrase with changes in the elements of space (levels, and pathways), time (tempo), and force (energy qualities). Structure Beginning, Middle, End	Exceeds Phrase is manipulated to contain a clear, visible beginning, middle and end	Meets Phrase is manipulated to contain 2 of the three parts	Progressing Phrase is manipulated to contain 1 of the three parts	Does not meet Phrase has not been manipulated to contain visible beginning, middle or end
Space Levels - High, Med, Low Pathways - straight, curved, zigzag, spiral, diagonal	Exceeds Phrase is manipulated to demonstrate 2 visible pathways and 2 visible level changes. These changes are strong and enhance the phrase.	Meets Phrase is manipulated and contains 1 visible pathway and 1 visible level change. These changes add value to the phrase	Progressing Phrase is manipulated and contains either 1 pathway or 1 level change but not both. Phrase is minimally manipulated.	Does not meet Phrase has no visible manipulation of pathway or level.
Time Tempo Fast/Moderate/Slow	Exceeds Phrase is manipulated to include contrasting slow and fast tempo changes. These changes are strong and add variety and interest to enhance the phrase.	Meets Phrase is manipulated to include slow and fast temp changes. These changes add value to the phrase.	Progressing Phrase is manipulated to contain only one tempo. Phrase is minimally manipulated and contrast is lacking.	Does not meet Phrase has no manipulation in tempo.
Force Energy Qualities smooth, sharp, shaky, swinging	Exceeds Phrase is manipulated to include 2 contrasting energy qualities. These changes are strong and add variety and interest to enhance the phrase.	Meets Phrase is manipulated to include two energy qualities. These changes add value to the phrase.	Progressing Phrase is manipulated to contain only one energy quality. Phrase is minimally manipulated and contrast is lacking.	Does not meet Phrase has no manipulation in energy quality.
