Virtually no errors. Pitch or notes are very accurate.
Excellent
An occasional isolated error, but most of the time pitch or notes are accurate and secure.

Some accurate pitches or notes, but there are frequent and/or repeated errors.

Very few accurate or secure pitches.
Poor

Rhythm
Superior
The beat is secure and the rhythms are accurate for the music being sung.
Excellent
The beat is secure and the rhythms are mostly accurate. There are a few duration errors, but these do not detract from the overall performance.
Good
The beat is somewhat erratic. Some rhythms are accurate. Frequent or repeated duration errors. Rhythm problems occasionally detract from the overall performance.
Average
The beat is usually erratic and rhythms are seldom accurate, detracting significantly from the overall performance.
Poor
Ain't got no rhythm.
Diction
Superior
Student articulates clearly and the text of the music is understandable.
Excellent
Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and the text can be understood most of the time.
Good
Student is sometimes articulating the words, but the text is often not discernable.
Average
Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not discernable.
Poor
No clue as to what the student is singing. Possibly singing in a different language.
Expression, Style, and Musicality
Superior
Performs with a creative nuance and style in response to the music and limited coaching. Follows melodic direction.
Excellent
Typically performs with nuance and style that is indicated in the music or which is suggested by instructor or peer.
Good
Sometimes performs with nuance and style that is indicated in the music or which is suggested by instructor or peer.
Average
Rarely demonstrated expression and style. Just sings the notes.
Poor
Expression and style is not evident in anyway
Posture
Superior
Students are standing up straight with hands by their sides, and no fidgeting.
Excellent
Students are standing up straight most of the time, or is slighty fidgeting.
Good
Students are slightly slouching and moving around, or hands are not by their sides.
Average
Students are slouching, and moving around during the whole performance.
Poor
Students have no regard for proper performance posture, and is showing little interest in their presentation.
Group Participation
Superior
Students are all working with group members, contributing equally, and making several contributions into making a successful performance.
Excellent
Students are working together most of the time, but can occasionally be off task.
Good
Students are working together some of the time and need two-three redirects for staying on task.
Average
Students need a lot of guidance to working together, most of the group members are off task, and need four or more redirects to staying on task during class work time.
Poor
Students are off task, not working together, showing very little progress, and needing many redirects each class work time.
