iRubric: 4th Grade General Writing Rubric

* The reader easily understands what the writer means.<BR>
* The writers use of verbs animate the story, as well as, the use of particular nouns add depth. <BR>
* The story shows that the writer has put in a lot of effort to use the right words or phrases to catch the reader's attention.

* The writer just tells the story but does not catch the attention. <BR>
* The writer attempts to use various words but overloads the story so much that the meaning is lost. <BR>
* The writer did not put in a lot of effort to find the best word or phrase but instead wrote down the first thing that came into their mind.

* The writer uses a very limited amount of vivid language or none at all. <BR>
* The writer's word choice doesn't fit the story or has been used incorrectly.<BR>
* Descriptive words are used over and over, making the story boring and showing that the reader was not considered.

* 0-2 Spelling errors<BR>
* No errors in <BR>

* Capitals are used correctly<BR>
* Grammar and usage are correct<BR>
* Paragraphs contain at least 7 sentences with a topic and a closing sentence.

* 3-5 errors in spelling<BR>
* 1-3 errors in punctuation<BR>
* 1-3 in capitalization<BR>
* 1-4 errors in grammar and usage<BR>
* Paragraphs are missing a topic or closing sentence or are short a sentence.

* 5 or more errors in spelling<BR>
* 4 or more errors in punctuation<BR>
* 4 or more errors in capitalization<BR>
* 5 or more errors in grammar and usage<BR>
* Paragraphs are not constructed correctly, are missing sentences, or lack structure.
