Vocabulary Rubric - Frayer Model 
When asked to complete a Frayer Model for a target word that was presented in a story or text, and that the students have studied, the students will: write a sentence with good context clues, illustrate the meaning with a picture, provide one synonym, and give at least one definition. (HI.2.R.1.5, LA.2.1.5, CC.2.R.1.4)

The word is spelled correctly and prominently displayed on the Frayer Model.

The word is spelled incorrectly on the Frayer Model, but is recognizable.

Definitions

Innovating

The definition of the word is clear and correct. Student may use a dictionary.
Applying

The definition is incomplete and the student was unable to/ or did not choose to find it in dictionary.
The definition would indicate some understanding of the word.
Developing

The definition is not correct or missing.
Picture

Innovating

The picture shows what the word means and does a good job of illustrating the word.
Applying

There is a picture, but it doesn't provide the clear meaning of the target word.
Developing

There is no picture or the picture does not illustrate the meaning of the target word.
Example

Innovating

Word is used in a grammatically correct sentence which demonstates knowledge of the meaning.
Applying

Demonstrates knowledge of the word in a sentence which is NOT grammatically correct.
Developing

Does not demonstrate knowledge of the meaning of the word.
