active listening for understanding This rubric is built on the 4th grade listening pa state standard for active listening and the process needed to develop that skill. Skill includes asking pertinent questions, summarizing and/or reflecting on what is heard. Active listening for understanding
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Gather information	Poor Asks 0-1 question to gain information about topic.	Fair Asks some questions to gain information about topic including "how" and "who" questions.	Good Asks questions to gain information including "how much, how often, how long, how many, who?" and judges authenticity of information.
Logical concerns	Poor Does not identify any concerns (inconsistencies/ errors) regarding the information presented.	Fair Identifies concerns (inconsistencies/ errors) in what is heard when presented.	Good Identifies inconsistencies or errors in what is heard when presented and asks questions about those concerns.
Question generalizations	Poor Identifies no generalized descriptive words (e.g. highly unlikely, not very likely, probably, often, usually, seldom, most).	Fair Identifies some generalized descriptive words (e.g. highly unlikely, not very likely, probably, often, usually, seldom, most).	Good Identifies generalized descriptive words (e.g. highly unlikely, not very likely, probably, often, usually, seldom, most) and asks questions about them.
Summarize what is heard	Poor Unrelated summary or opinion.	Fair Related summary of information heard or vague opinion without the use of rationale.	Good Clear summary of information heard or explicit related opinion about information heard with rationale.
