Plot	Excellent Very original and creative. The storyline is extremely well developed and thorough. A clear, conflict is explored.	Good The story is very developed and thorough. There is a clear conflict.	Fair The story is somewhat developed. Not particularly original.	Needs Work The story is undeveloped. Poor effort
Setting	Excellent Use of setting is clear, consistant and vividly described.	Good Use of setting is somewhat clear. Description is good.	Fair Use of setting is unclear, it is difficult for the reader to identify setting in the story. Little description.	Needs Work No use of setting is present in the short story. Description non-existent.
Mechanics	Excellent No spelling or grammar errors.	Good 2-3 spelling or grammar errors	Fair 4-5 spelling or grammar errors	Needs Work Too many errors.
Point of View	Excellent Point of view is clear and highly appropriate to the story	Good Point of view is clear.	Fair Point of view is unclear at times or not the best for the story.	Needs Work Point of view is not clear. Reader is unable to identify point of view at all in piece.
Writing Style	Excellent Writing style is of the highest standard in terms of vocabularly, description,use of imagery, dialogue.	Good Writing is strong with some improvement necessary.	Fair Writing is adequate with several improvements required.	Needs Work Writing is poor.
Process	Excellent Student has put extra effort into making story wonderful: editing, revising, requesting feed-back, losing sleep etc until story is perfect. Never looked at internet during lab time.	Good Student has revised and edited story as requested. Didn't waste time in lab or class.	Fair Student made a few changes, but is not committed to making story wonderful. Looked at cars on internet, or email when we were in lab.	Needs Work Sudent gave up on story.
