Inference Inference By the end of this lesson students will be able to identify their background knowledge and specific text clues that lead them to draw inferences. This will be assessed through the students ability to use the inferring equation BK+TC=I (Background Knowledge + Text Clues = Inference). Inferring Equation
	Novice 1 pts	Apprentice 2 pts	Practitioner 3 pts	Expert 4 pts
Background Knowledge	Novice I did not use background knowledge, or I did not show my thinking.	Apprentice I used background knowledge but did not show a connection to the text.	Practitioner I connected my background knowledge to the text.	Expert I used many connections between the text and my background knowledge.
Text Clues	Novice I made a guess that was not based on evidence from the text.	Apprentice I used evidence from the text with limited connection to my inference.	Practitioner I made an evident, and logical connection to the text in order to draw an inference.	Expert I used a variety of evidence from the text to draw an inference.
Question Response	Novice I did not provide any evidence from the text to support my inference.	Apprentice Uses one example from the text to draw an inference.	Practitioner I used two examples from the text to draw an inference.	Expert I used three in depth examples from the text to draw an inference.
