Fair You have minimal notes and/or plans for your writing	Good You have plans for your writing that define your idea and some of your details	Excellent You have notes and/or other plans for your writing that clearly define your idea and your details.
Spelling / Grammar	Poor Your poem has many spelling and grammar mistakes. You have made no effort to correct obvious mistakes.	Fair Your poem has several errors in grammar and spelling which make it difficult to understand.	Good Your poem has a few errors in spelling and/or grammar. It is easily understood.	Excellent Your spelling and grammar are virtually error free.
Poem Style	Poor Your poem is not written in a shape OR representative of a shape in any way.	Fair Your poem is written in a crude shape.	Good Your poem is written in a creative shape.	Excellent Your poem is written in a well-defined and detailed shape.
Voice	Poor Your personality is not communicated in your poem.	Fair Your personality is somewhat evident in your poem.	Good For the most part, your personality is evident in your poem.	Excellent Your personality shows throughout your poem. The author of this poem would be obvious even if you did not have your name on the top of the paper.
Appropriateness of Language	Poor No thought has been given to word choices. This makes your poem difficult to relate to and understand.	Fair Little thought has been given to word choices. Your poem would have been more meaningful with a few word substitutions.	Good Your poem demonstrates good sensory details and appropriate use of language.	Excellent Your poem uses precise language and sensory details that have been carefully chosen.
