Grade 7 Book Review Rubric 
Students read a book and review the book they have read using persuasive language to indicate the reader's opinion about the book. The reviewer recommends or does not recommend this book to another student based on insights they may have regarding the book.

* Indicates tone or mood of story
* States potential lesson learned by reader or characters

Plot/Storyline Analysis is complete and creates a firm opinion about the book.
Level 3

Plot/Storyline Analysis may be missing one or two features, but still creates an opinion about the book.
Level 2

Plot/Storyline Analysis is missing three or more features and needs to be more persuasive.
Level 1

Plot/Storyline Analysis is missing, incomplete or overly simple.
The analysis and descriptions are unclear and fail to create an opinion about the book.
OVERALL OPINION about:

* Author's Style or Craft
- use of vocabulary and language
- use of literary devices
* Quality of the writing
* Author's ability to connect with the reader
* Pace of the story

Level 4

Reviewer's Opinion is strong and obvious to the reader and addresses the author's style and craft and quality of writing.
Level 3

Reviewer's Opinion is clear, however, the review may not address all the features of author's style and craft.
Level 2

Reviewer's Opinion is not always clear, and the review does not address all the features of author's style and craft.
Level 1

Reviewer's Opinion is not present or clear. The reviewer fails to address the author's style and craft.
CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION

Reviewer:
* provides overall likes or dislikes about the book with clear reasons.
* Shows the popularity or quality of book using statistics, other reviews, awards won
*makes an overall recommendation whether to read or not read the book.
* suggests who would like this book - the suggests a target audience

Level 4

Conclusion completes the review leaving the reader with a clear opinion about the book.
Level 3

Conclusion is nearly complete leaving the reader with a clear opinion about the book.
Level 2

Conclusion is incomplete and overly simple or weak. May or may not leave a clear opinion about the book.
Level 1

Conclusion is missing or not complete. The reviewer's opinion is not clear.
