Conventions/Fluency	1 Many basic errors including: commonly misspelled words, capitalization, run on sentences, and punctuation. The writing would benefit from a peer review.	2 Few to no run-on sentences, sentence fragments, misspelled words, or improper use of capitalization, punctuation, etc.	3 Correctly uses punctuation, verb tenses, capitalization, and correctly spelled words. Uses of a variety of sentence lengths and punctuation not covered in class (semicolons, dialogue punctuation, etc.)
Organization	1 The reader has a hard time understanding the flow of the story or what is occurring. No clear paragraph breaks, introduction, body paragraph or conclusion.	2 The reader can follow the writing and the details are placed in an order that makes sense. Identifiable beginning, middle and end. Correct use of paragraphs.	3 The reader can follow the writing with ease. It has an intriguing beginning, creative supporting details, and a satisfying ending.
Ideas/Voice	1 No societal problem is referenced in the writing. The reader has to guess at the student's tone and purpose. Details and information do not support the student's writing.	2 A societal problem is clear and focused in the writing, although the student's tone is unclear. Details and information may not support the student's writing.	3 The societal problem is cleverly crafted and clearly stated in the writing. The student's tone is clear, well expressed and holds the reader's attention.
